Sofia Tech Park in Bulgaria has Acquired a Powerful Supercomputer

Sofia Tech Park has received a supercomputer from the IT giant Atos. This is the most powerful such device in Southeastern and Eastern Europe. This will help Bulgaria greatly with its tech ambitions for the near future. It is a great accomplishment for Bulgaria; however, it is also a fantastic achievement for the whole of the European Union as well – this will benefit scientific research, it will bolster innovation, and it will provide the broader scientific community with state-of-the-art development and research tools.

The supercomputers will be used for the development of a variety of different fields, such as artificial intelligence, personalized medicine, meteorology, bioengineering, molecular and mechanical dynamics, pharmacy, bioinformatics, quantum chemistry and biochemistry, and the fight against climate change.

The system is similar to supercomputing systems across Europe, such as IZUM in Slovenia, CINECA in Italy, Minho Advanced Computing Center in Portugal, and LuxProvide in Luxembourg. This will help consolidate the EU’s network of supercomputers, contributing greatly to the research and scientific capabilities of the union.
