Polish, Czech, and Slovenian Prime Ministers visit Zelenskyy in Kyiv

On March 15, the prime ministers of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovenia paid a visit to Kyiv in an "unequivocal" display of support for Ukraine as Russia continues its attack on the nation.

"We have to halt this tragedy unfolding in the East as quickly as possible," Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in a Facebook post announcing their arrival.

According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala's tweet, the three leaders were to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal.

"The purpose of the visit is to show the European Union's unambiguous support for Ukraine, as well as for its freedom and independence," Fiala added.

Fiala, Morawiecki, and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa traveled by rail to Kyiv, a city that is currently under attack, forcing many residents to spend nights in subterranean metro stations. As part of their unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Russian military increased their attacks on various Kyiv neighborhoods overnight.

Despite attacking the capital and its outskirts, Russian soldiers have been halted outside Kyiv nearly three weeks into a war that Western governments say Moscow expected to win in days.

Hosting foreign prime ministers in his own city would be a symbolic triumph for Zelenskyy, who has remained in Kyiv to rally his country with nightly addresses.

In his most recent message, Zelenskyy urged Russian soldiers to surrender, claiming that they and their superiors are already aware that the war is futile.
