North Korea has fired a ballistic missile into waters off the coast of Japan

Weeks after South Korea revealed a powerful ballistic missile, which can be fired from a submarine, the North Korean regime did the same, and described theirs as “the world’s most powerful weapon”.

In recent weeks, North Korea has conducted a series of missile tests, which they claim to be hypersonic and long-ranged weapons.

The launch took place close to the port of the city of Sinpo (신포시), where there is a large North Korean naval shipyard.

"North Korea's latest actions threaten the peace and security of Japan and the region," said Japan’s Deputy Secretary General Yoshihiko Isozaki (磯﨑 仁彦). "Furthermore, the continued ballistic missile launches pose a serious challenge not just for Japan but for the entire international community."

It has been reported by South Korea, that this missile has travelled around 450 kilometers at a maximum height of 60 kilometers. However, if the missile’s trajectory was normal, it could have travelled around 1 900 kilometers, making almost anywhere in Japan and South Korea in the reach of North Korea.

Fumio Kishida (岸田 文雄), Japan’s current Prime minister has stated that Japan would „respond resolutely” to North Korea’s action in a Tweet earlier today.

This has occurred right after South and North Korean relations had started to improve once again, with Pyongyang agreeing to reopen communications with Seoul earlier this month.
