Bulgaria’s Fifth COVID-19 wave has begun

Bulgaria has entered its fifth wave of COVID-19 infections, as the Omicron variant has become widespread in the country. The number of positive tests for the past 24 hours is close to the record number for the country – 6252. A total of 42 828 tests have been conducted, which means that 14.6% of them have been positive.

Currently hospitalized are 4477, most of which are sick with the Delta variant, and 157 people have succumbed to the illness. The number of newly admitted patients is 887, while 468 people are in intensive care.

The number of newly vaccinated people has also increased during the past 24 hours. In total, 24 947 vaccines have been administered. This brings up the amount of fully-vaccinated people to 29%.
